GDD Sci-tech

Sticking simultaneously to both external and internal stimulation of development, GDD regards the improvement of independent innovation ability as the core of adjusting the economic structure and transforming the growth mode of economy. It endeavors to create an in-depth, multi-functional and high-grade service system for science and technological innovation, to create an extraordinary environment for the establishment and innovation of enterprises, and to win the district more endurable core competitiveness.
The national incubation center, with Guangzhou High & New Technology Incubation Center and Guangzhou Torch Hi-tech Innovation Center as the leading industrial service providers, have gathered and integrated various science and technological innovation resources and resulted in the formation of a comprehensive sci-tech innovation service platform which integrates sci-tech enterprise incubators, intermediation agencies, venture capitals, the transaction and evaluation of technological proprietary rights and the exhibition and purchase of high & new tech products.
It is reported that there are a total of around 500,000 m2 of national, provincial, municipal, district-level and private incubation sites in this district, including Institute for Biological Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, national Torch Hi-tech Innovation Center, national Guangzhou Entrepreneur Park for Overseas Chinese Scholars, national 863 Software Incubation Base, Guangdong Software Park, Guangzhou International Enterprise Incubator, the Sci-tech Innovation Base of Guangzhou Development District and Zhitong Software Park, and providing professional incubators for electronic information, biological medicine, new materials, environmental protection industries and for enterprise-establishing of returned overseas Chinese scholars, with an aim of maximally satisfying the needs of different enterprises. Moreover, it has founded public development laboratories, technological evaluation services, technological innovation and patent services and trademark application services, established cooperative and interactive systems for sci-tech projects with over 20 universities and scientific institutes, established systems for sharing R&D resources with 30-plus national and provincial key laboratories and finally formed interactive resources-sharing platforms for enterprises, universities and scientific institutes. A series of sci-tech intermediation service agencies, such as those for proprietary transaction, enterprise management, talent training, law services and accounting services, have also been introduced. Furthermore, around RMB 1 billion has been invested into establishing several venture capital companies and IDG, the famous US venture capital company operating around the world, has also been introduced. With these measures, an open and three-dimensional platform for supporting and serving sci-tech innovation has formed; it is able to provide comprehensive and individualized services for small and medium-size sci-tech enterprises.
Over one thousand R&D institutes, project centers and R&D teams of various types have entered the district. Among them, there are 26 recognized national and provincial project research centers, 8 provincial enterprise technological centers and 10 post-doctoral research centers; 183 national Torch projects, 23 “863” projects and 485 other sci-tech projects of national, provincial and municipal level have been implemented in the district; well-known multinational enterprises such as Sony, Micro Electric, Thomson, Samsung and Motorola, have set up their R&D institutes and operation centers here one after anther.
The excellent environment for sci-tech innovation has fostered the foundation of many independent-innovation sci-tech enterprises and helped to form three high & new technological bases of the electronic information industry, the biological medicine industry and the new material industry. Science and technology have become an increasingly important driving force for the economic development of GDD.
